Tourist Guide Training and Licensing Programme

DCT Abu Dhabi offers a complete training programme for those seeking to obtain an official licence for the tourism guidance profession in the emirate. The Tourism Guide Training and Licensing Programme is in line with DCT Abu Dhabi’s efforts to upgrade the quality of all tourism services in the emirate, invest in workforce capacity building, and effectively and impactfully present the emirate’s touristic and cultural experiences to visitors.

The programme offers both theoretical and practical training which provides participants with the skills, experience and resources to efficiently perform tourism guidance tasks, according to the best standards and practices of the field. The curriculum covers the spectrum of touristic, cultural and heritage experiences in Abu Dhabi, and provides specialised training in the skills and tools of tourism guidance, tourist group management and crisis response.

To obtain a licence, participants are required to pass an editorial test, commit to a self-study schedule and job training, and give a virtual presentation.

Trainees who successfully pass the final test receive a tourism guidance licence valid in Abu Dhabi for two years, during which time they are allowed to provide their services and sign contracts with tourism and destination management establishments.

Applicants for the programme must be aged 18 and above and be proficient in the English language. Registration is open to all nationalities.
